Lady Trojans progress

I witnessed some stellar prep basketball careers come to an end on the Mayfield home court as seven seniors finished their last home game as Trojans. The Mayfield Lady Trojans, the #3 seed in the 2011 NM state basketball tournament, easily dominated the Rio Rancho Rams 53-32 on Friday March 4th and will progress to the next round of the tournament in Rio Rancho.

Greeted by her coaches and players, senior Elena Holguin leaves the Mayfield court for the last time as a Trojan

It was a good day for senior Elena Holguin who, along with the win, signed with New Mexico State University earlier in the week.

Head coach George Maya played the majority of his bench, and it was great to see sophomore guard Audrey Oliver on the court again, even if it was for a short while.

Even though the Lady Trojans are losing seven seniors, the next wave of players, including Audrey’s sister Brittany, Alyssa Calderon, Daeshianna McCants and an already dominating Tiffani Lara, will help extend Mayfield’s success.
