Cleveland falls to Las Cruces

Having fallen to Mayfield the week before, Cleveland’s luck against Las Cruces area teams didn’t improve when they faced the #3 ranked Lady Bulldawgs on the first day of the LCPS Hoopla. Cleveland dropped the game, 59-36, to the powerful ‘Dawgs.

With strong inside play from posts Jade Brown, Devon Mulheron and Sharayah Newton, Las Cruces was effective in stopping Cleveland’s Sarah Hattis, a 6′ 4″ sophomore.

Resurgent ‘Dawgs almost upset Rio Rancho

The Rio Rancho Lady Rams made the four hour drive to Las Cruces on October 24 to face the Lady Bulldawgs. The ‘Dawgs came alive in the third set, almost pulled off the upset, but ultimately fell 21-25, 17-25, 25-19, 25-22, 14-16.

Since I’m based in Las Cruces, I really enjoy seeing different teams from outside the area, and perennial powerhouse Rio Rancho is no exception. This is the third time I’ve seen them this season, and they keep improving each time. Head coach Toby Manzanares is a first-rate coach and class act, and always takes the time to talk to me.
