DeWayne Walker’s first scrimmage as the head football coach at NMSU went well. My primary assignment was to get shots of the new coaching staff for the Sports Information Department. In hindsight, I should have taken my flash for a little fill to counter the late afternoon sun, but considering all the stuff I forgot to take, I’m happy to have gotten the shots I took.
As far as the scrimmage went, things were a little slow-going at first, but the action picked up as the scrimmage progressed.
Running backs Marquell Colston and Tonny Glenn looked pretty good. They both broke loose for a touchdown and kept the defense on their heels. Tight end Kyle Nelson was especially impressive with two touchdowns and a few beautiful catches.
Defensively, DB Jonte Green made an incredible interception after a pass bounced off WR Saint Shabazz.
I also got to catch up with Sam Wasson, the operator of the excellent and timely Bleed Crimson website (www.bleedcrimson.com). Sam’s been doing the website for three years and has done a great job making the NMSU Athletics Department much more accessible. Check it out if you have a chance.
