Oñate Knightettes

Here’s a collection of shots from Oñate’s pom group, the Knightettes. These were all taken at halftime of the boys and girls basketball games over the course of three performances. They’re a great squad of dancers, and have made the halftimes very entertaining!

Girls Basketball: Cruces at Oñate

District play kicked off last week, and Las Cruces paid a visit to Oñate on Friday, January 21st.

Oñate won its first game against Las Cruces in eight years–some monkey to get off your back. With key Bulldawg varsity players having to sit out (Sarah Fountain, Kandice Guzman and Tina Vaquera), a couple of the junior varsity players,  Azia Jones and Leanne Garcia, stepped up and played a great game.

If you recall, both Oñate head coach Ben Trujillo and assistant Robert Burkhartsmier both assisted under Las Cruces head coach Matt Abney–I think it speaks to the quality of the coach when “branches” from your coaching starts finding success. At any rate, it’s good to see Oñate enjoying the wins.

Both the Oñate band and pom squads were in attendance, and both put on some entertaining shows. I caught a little flack from Dominic, a fellow photog, for shooting the pom’s performance, but I’m glad I did; I think I got some nice action shots and I’m always looking for something new to shoot!
